Your Questions Answered

We understand that choosing a water filtration system can be overwhelming. We’ve compiled some frequently asked questions to help guide you in making an informed decision for your home.

What is a whole-home filtration system?

A whole-home filtration system treats all the water entering your home, ensuring that every tap and outlet provides clean, safe water. This system reduces contaminants, improves taste, and enhances your overall water quality for drinking and daily use.

How does the installation process work?

Our installation process is efficient. Once you schedule an installation with us, our team including licensed plumbers, will assess your water needs, install the system, and guide you through its operations and maintenance.

What maintenance does the system require?

Maintaining your water filtration system is easy. We recommend annual filter replacements. This ensures optimal performance and longevity of your system, guaranteeing consistently pure water for your home.

What contaminants can a whole-home filtration system reduce?

Our systems are designed to target a wide range of contaminants including chlorine, heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic), sediment, rust, pesticides, herbicides, industrial chemicals, bacteria, viruses, and organic compounds that cause bad taste and odour. Our systems also reduce fluoride and microplastics.

Will a water filtration system soften my water?

Our whole-home system will reduce hardness by removing calcium and magnesium deposits. This means softer water for bathing, better lathering soap, less mineral buildup in appliances, and improved skin and hair health.

Will it affect my water pressure?

Our properly installed and maintained filtration system may decrease pressure up to 5%, but will not noticeably affect your water pressure. We use high-capacity systems designed to handle full household demand without slowing your supply.

How much space do I need for installation?

Most systems are installed at your home’s main water entry point. We’ll assess your property and recommend a setup that fits your space without interfering with normal plumbing access.

Water Filtration Benefits

Improved Water Quality and Health

Water is one of the most essential elements for life, yet many people don’t realise the range of contaminants that can be present in their tap water — even in countries like Australia where water treatment is standard practice. Public water supplies are disinfected to prevent disease, but this process doesn’t always remove all unwanted substances, and sometimes introduces others in the process. Chlorine, for example, is effective at killing harmful bacteria and viruses but can cause skin irritation, digestive discomfort, and form by-products such as trihalomethanes (THMs) when it reacts with natural organic matter.

Heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, and mercury may also enter the water supply through old plumbing, industrial runoff, or natural geological sources. Long-term exposure to these can accumulate in the body and contribute to serious health concerns including developmental issues in children, cardiovascular problems, reproductive complications, and certain cancers. Pesticides and industrial chemicals can be detected in agricultural regions, while harmful microorganisms can still survive in trace amounts despite disinfection.

A high-quality water filtration system is designed to tackle all of these issues at once. Advanced filtration media can capture microscopic bacteria, neutralise viruses, adsorb heavy metals, and remove chlorine and its by-products, delivering water that is safer, cleaner, and healthier. The result is more than just peace of mind — it’s a daily boost to your body’s defence systems. Clean water supports the immune system, assists your kidneys and liver in filtering out toxins, and contributes to better metabolic function, which affects energy, weight regulation, and overall vitality.

Better Taste and Hydration

Many people underestimate how much the taste of water influences how much volume they actually drink. Chlorine and other treatment chemicals, along with natural compounds like geosmin (produced by certain harmless soil bacteria), can cause tap water to have an unpleasant taste or odour. Even at safe levels, these off-notes can make drinking water less appealing, which often leads people to reach for sugary drinks, soft drinks, or bottled water instead.

Filtered water removes these taste and odour-causing compounds leaving nothing but clean, crisp water that’s genuinely refreshing. This subtle but powerful change can transform hydration habits. Studies have shown that people are more likely to drink adequate amounts of water when it tastes fresh and pleasant, leading to improved concentration, better digestion, higher energy levels, and healthier skin.

The improvement in taste also carries over to cooking and beverages. Tea and coffee brewed with filtered water have a cleaner, more vibrant flavour because there’s no chlorine or mineral interference. Pasta, rice, soups, and vegetables cooked in filtered water taste more like they should, with the natural flavours of the ingredients shining through.

Beneficial for Skin and Hair

When you shower or bathe, the warm water opens your pores and hair follicles, making it easier for any chemicals in the water to be absorbed into your body. Chlorine is one of the biggest culprits for skin and hair problems, as it strips away natural oils that keep skin soft and hair smooth. This often leads to dryness, itchiness, and irritation, especially in people with sensitive skin or pre-existing conditions like eczema or dermatitis.

Filtered water is far gentler. By reducing chlorine, chloramine, and other potential irritants, your skin retains more of its natural moisture barrier, helping it feel smoother and more comfortable after washing. Hair also benefits — without harsh chemicals, it tends to look shinier, feel softer, and be easier to manage. Families often notice that children’s skin stays healthier, and those prone to rashes or scalp irritation experience relief. Over time, filtered water can reduce the need for heavy moisturisers, conditioners, and medicated creams, saving money while improving comfort and appearance.

Protection for Home Appliances and Plumbing

Hard water with high mineral content, particularly calcium and magnesium can wreak havoc on household appliances and plumbing over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, tap fittings, and heating elements, causing scale deposits that restrict water flow, reduce heating efficiency, and increase energy consumption. Sediment and rust particles can also contribute to wear and tear, clog filters, and shorten the life of appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, and hot water systems.

A filtration system prevents much of this damage before it starts. By removing sediment, rust, and excess minerals, the water flowing through your home is cleaner and less abrasive to your appliances and plumbing. This not only extends their lifespan but also ensures they operate at peak efficiency, saving you money on repairs, replacements, and energy bills. The reduced scale buildup in hot water systems also means water heats faster and stays consistent, improving comfort and convenience throughout the home.

Environmental Benefits

Australians consume millions of litres of bottled water each year, much of it purchased simply because people prefer the taste or safety perception over tap water. Unfortunately, this comes at a huge environmental cost. Producing bottled water involves extracting the water, manufacturing the plastic bottles (often from petroleum-based materials), transporting them, sometimes across the world, and eventually disposing of them. Many bottles end up in landfill or the ocean, where they contribute to plastic pollution for hundreds of years.

A home water filtration system provides a far more sustainable option. With filtered tap water, you can fill reusable bottles and jugs at home, dramatically reducing single-use plastic waste. Over time, the environmental impact of this switch is enormous. not only reducing pollution but also cutting down the carbon footprint associated with bottled water production and transportation. Choosing filtration is a simple but powerful step towards a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Cost-Effectiveness

While the upfront cost of purchasing and installing a water filtration system can seem significant, it should be viewed as a long-term investment that pays itself back many times over. By replacing bottled water with filtered tap water, households can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars every year. Even families who only occasionally buy bottled water will notice the difference in their grocery bill.

The savings extend beyond water itself. Because filtered water helps protect appliances from scale and sediment damage, you’ll spend less on repairs, replacements, and maintenance. Health benefits also play a role in cost-effectiveness. better hydration, reduced skin irritation, and fewer chemical exposures can all contribute to fewer doctor visits, skincare products, and treatments over time. The initial investment is quickly offset by the combination of reduced expenses and improved quality of life.

Whole-House Filtration Advantages

While under-sink filters and benchtop units are effective for drinking water, a whole-house filtration system takes water quality to another level. It ensures that every tap in your home, whether it’s the kitchen sink, the shower, or the garden hose, delivers clean filtered water. This means you’re protected not just when drinking and cooking, but also when bathing, washing clothes, cleaning, and even giving water to pets.

Whole-house filtration systems are particularly valuable in areas where water quality is inconsistent or where contaminants can affect more than just the drinking supply. For example, if your local water has high chlorine levels, that chemical is affecting your skin, your hair, your appliances, and even the lifespan of your plumbing fixtures. By installing a single, central system, you address all these issues in one solution. The result is complete peace of mind, improved comfort, and a noticeable upgrade in your daily life, every time you turn on a tap.

Understanding Geelongs Water Challenges

  • Water contamination: Public drinking fountains in Geelong were shut off in 2018 due to elevated lead levels, Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer permanent adverse health impacts.

  • Blue-green algae outbreaks: The Barwon River has experienced recurring blue-green algae blooms, particularly during hot, low-flow conditions. These outbreaks can cause skin rashes, eye/ear irritation, gastrointestinal symptoms, and respiratory issues.

  • Industrial chemical traces: Occasional detections of herbicides like hexazinone and PFAS (known as "forever chemicals") have been found in raw waters managed by the Moorabool Water Treatment Plant, though typically within guideline limits
